How would you describe the style and vibe of your first solo album “Rise”?

I would say the style is modern rock with passion and melody.

Can you describe some of the songs on “Rise” and the story behind them?

This is my first solo album and all the songs are about my life’s journey and experiences. The struggles…ups and downs but the main message is about not giving up on your dreams and not letting others hold you back. I’ve also included a few songs about relationship experiences as well.

What’s your favorite song off the album and why?

My favorite song is Rise which is what the album is also called. It describes a point in my life where I had lost everything and it was time to pick up the pieces and rise above the loss.

What does music mean to you?

Music helps me breathe. Music has always been there to help lift me through the toughest parts of my life. Without music, I’m not sure where my life would be today. I think you will get that feeling from this album.

Which band or artist inspired you to become a musician?

I’m sure I was born loving music. Many artists have inspired me throughout my life, but it was my third-grade music teacher Mrs. G that believed in me and told me to never stop singing. Her words still echo in my mind to this day.

What are your top five albums of all time?

WOW, great question! I am sure if you asked me again tomorrow I could have a different answer but as I stop to think about it; Journey’s Greatest Hits, Breaking’s Greatest Hits, Elton John’s Greatest Hits, Guns and Roses Appetite for Destruction, and Peter Gabriel’s Greatest Hits.

Other than being a musician, what else in the entertainment business would you be good at and why?

I believe I would be good at acting. I acted in a few plays as a child for The Port Tobacco Theatre in LaPlata Maryland. I loved it. I have thought about auditioning for some local plays here… if only I had the time! 😊

What do you think musicians can do to make the world a better place?

Stay positive and use music to bring people together. Music is about connecting people with each other and I believe my music does that.

What inspires you to keep creating and playing music?

Many things inspire me to write and play music. I get inspired by the people around me as well as the beauty that surrounds us.  To be quite honest, music is a driving force that I can’t ignore, waking me up in the middle of the night with chords and melodies bursting to be played.

Describe for me your music making process.

It starts with my acoustic guitar. I’ll just start playing and the music comes to me, usually in the middle of the night. The lyrics are always the final part of the process.
